Days after the Fatehgarh Sahib police busted a terror module by arresting seven persons and recovering six weapons,the district police on Wednesday arrested five more members allegedly from the same terrorist module.
While ring leader Satnam Singh a resident of Nanded Sahib was arrested from Sangli in Maharashtra on Tuesday,five from the same group were arrested on Wednesday. Four weapons,including an AK 47,have been recovered from them.
Fatehgarh Sahib SSP Gurmit Singh Chauhan on Wednesday said that following the first arrests made on September 6 and further investigations into the case registered under Sections 153-A,120-B of the IPC and Arms Act,a team of the district police went to Maharashtra and arrested Singh with the assistance of Maharashtra ATS. Singh was produced before a judicial magistrate,who sent him to police remand till September 18.
Preliminary questioning has revealed a sinister design to revive terrorism in Punjab by foreign-based terrorists,who have motivated and financed local modules for undertaking attacks on certain leaders. The primary mode of radicalisation of the arrested youths have been the Internet and social networking tools like Facebook,WhatsAapp,etc, Chauhan said.
He added: The foreign-based unit is headed by Germany-based Babbar Khalsa terrorist Resham Singh and includes operatives in UAE,Hong Kong and New Zealand. Money transfers,mostly using Western Union,are being investigated. The targets were selected by Punjab-based terror modules…
