A Bhiwani court on Tuesday awarded the death penalty to four people and sentenced 10 to life in prison for the alleged murder of a widow and her two sons. The accused are the victims relatives and had allegedly committed the murders for 18 acres of land.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Sarita Gupta also slapped a Rs 24,000 fine on each of the accused and ruled that their sentences will be increased by three months if they fail to pay the amount.
The case dates back to July 10,2011,when the woman,Santosh,and her children,Rajesh (18) and Jaswant (13),were found brutally murdered at their residence in Patwan village of Haryanas Bhiwani district. Santoshs husband Sukhbir had died in a road accident in 2000. She had started working in the fields to support her family.
As per the case details,the neighbours first spotted the bodies and informed police. After investigations,police booked Santoshs brothers-in-law Inder Singh,Dhoop Singh,Hari Singh,nephew Shamsher Singh,Kuldeep,Pradeep,Ramkumar,Manjit,Vijay and Jagat Singh,and sisters-in-law Bimla,Neelam,Santosh. Police concluded that they had committed the murders for Santosh land that had been left to her after husbands death.
While Shamsher Singh,Dalbir Singh,Hari Singh and Kuldeep got the death sentence,Inder Singh and his wife Bimla,Dhoop Singh and his wife Sunita,Ramkumar,Neelam,Manjit,Vijay,Santosh,Jagat Singh were awarded life imprisonment.
