“I reconfirm that I have not denounced my marriage with Anuradha Bali aka Fiza and we remain husband and wife,” says former Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan aka Chand Mohammad, who is at the centre of a controversy over his relationship with Fiza,a former Assistant Advocate General of Haryana.

Chand refuted charges of rape, cheating, hurting religious sentiments, defamation and criminal intimidation levelled against him and his family by Fiza, who claims she was “betrayed, physically used, blackmailed, intimidated and ditched” under the garb of “religion and marriage” by Haryana Congress stronghold.

After remaining silent and elusive since he left Fiza on January 28,Chand has finally responded to the criminal complaint lodged against him.

In a fax message sent to this correspondent from London on Monday evening,Chand said he has come to know through media reports that a complaint under Sections 376,295-A,420,500 and 506 of the IPC has been filed against him by Fiza on February 16.

Addressed to Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP),before whom Fiza had filed the complaint,Chand’s fax message reads,”I have neither reconverted to Hinduism nor have I denounced my marriage with Bali. I never converted to Islam for the sake of marriage. I am a devout Muslim and shall remain so.”

“Bali is under false impression that I have denounced my marriage with her. I hereby reconfirm that I have not denounced my marriage with her and we remain husband and wife,” claims the 43-year-old Congress legislator from Kalka,Haryana.

Reiterating that he was in the UK for medical treatment and the question of leaving Fiza does not arise,Chand says,”I have been disowned by my family so the question of my family making threatening calls to Bali also does not arise and I deny any knowledge of such calls. Since I have stayed with them for long,I can certainly vouch for it that they will never behave in such a manner.”

Chand further clarifies,”I have always maintained in public and otherwise that I respect Bali and the question of my making any defamatory statement against her or defaming her does not arise.”

“Since I have neither denounced my marriage nor reconverted or deserted her, therefore the question of my raping her for the sake of sexual relationship does not arise,” he argues, while concluding,”there is no ground for her to complain against me with charges of rape, cheating, hurting religious sentiments, defamation and criminal intimidation.”

I must say that I am deeply hurt by her (Fiza’s) conduct,” added Chand.

Confirming the receipt of Chand’s fax message at police control room in Mohali, the investigation officer Varinder Pal Singh said Chand has categorically denied all allegations levelled against him while reaffirming his marriage. Legal opinion will be taken before initiating appropriate action if needed,he added.

Fiza on the otherhand sought time to reply to Chand’s statement. “I will have to consult my legal advisors.”
