A stray dog dragged away a five-day-old girl who was sleeping outside their house, with her mother and escaped, in Dangs district. A village woman spotted the dog taking away the baby and raised an alarm which led the dog to abandon the baby. The infant incurred severe head injuries and was rushed to Dharampur hospital and then Surat where her condition is reported to be critical.

Ilaben Chaudhary (26), mother of three had delivered the baby five days ago and was sleeping with her outside her house in Aat village of Dangs district Monday night. At midnight, a stray dog came and caught hold of infant girl by her head and quietly escaped. The passerby woman’s alarm led the dog to drop the baby and also woke up Ilaben who chased the dog away. The bleeding baby was taken to the primary health centre in Dharampur and then Civil hospital in Valsad, after which she was taken to Surat New Civil hospital Wednesday. Sources said that the girl is undergoing treatment in ICU pediatric ward in NCH where her condition is reported to be critical, by doctors.

The girl’s father, Krishna Chaudhary said, “I was sleeping inside the house with my two children, while my wife was sleeping outside the house with infant. There are many stray dogs here and they event come inside our homes, however this is the first such incident. Our villagers have now decided to kill the stray dogs to protect the infants. My daughter is still undergoing treatment in the NCH.”
