The Jalandhar police on Sunday booked five persons, including a railway ticket checker, for allegedly raping a minor girl in Bhopal at Madhya Pradesh.

According to sources, the 16-year-old girl has been staying at an ashram in Jalandhar since her stepmother left her there two years ago.

The girl,in her complaint to the Bhopal police, has alleged that the accused — Lalit Sharma alias Sunny (from Jalandhar),Raju,Monu and another Raju — who used to visit the ashram, had raped her.

Moreover, while she was returning to Bhopal in a train a few months ago,a ticket checker called Ashish Sinha had taken her to his sister’s residence at Panipat and raped her.

Following this, the girl reached Bhopal and lodged a complaint with the police in July. Later,a case of rape was registered in Jalandhar against the accused, among whom,Lalit Sharma has been arrested.

SHO of Police Division 1 Balbir Singh said: “This is an old case but has come into light just now. A police party is being sent to record the girl’s statement.”
