Firing on petrol pump owner; seven arrested

A massive manhunt was launched by the cops which led to the arrest of the culprits.

With the arrest of seven persons including a sharp shooter from Nashik, the Thane rural police on Monday claimed to have solved the case of an attempted murder of a petrol pump owner at Bhiwandi–Nimbavli Phata here on June 23.

According to the Senior Inspector of LCB Thane District Rural police, Kishore Khairnar an unsuccessful attempt to kill
Akshesh V Patel (30) was made on that day when he was on his way to the petrol pump in his car.

Two shooters who came to Vadpe bypass on a motorbike fired at him from the point-blank range. The bulllets pierced the
car glass and injured the jaws of the victim, police said.

Subsequently, a manhunt was launched for the shooters, and the seven persons having criminal antecedants were arrested in
the case on Saturday, he said.

The police also seized three revolvers from the possession of one of the arrested. The assailants are mostly cable repairers and drivers.

Those arrested are: Imran Mubarak Khan (24), Vasim Akhil Shaikh (28), Malegaon Faiaz Ahmed alias Babbly Liyakat Ali
Shaikh (30), Juber Ahmad alias Laden Soheb Shaikh (28), Vijay alias Viky Sudham Karnekar (28), Ranjit Bhaskar Kashivale (24)
and Manmohan Suryapratap Singh (27).

Some more persons are likely to be arrested in connection with the firing, he said.

All the arrested were produced before a local court on Sunday and were remanded in the police custody till July 10.

Some of the arrested may be slapped with MCOCA the police officer added.
