The Punjab Congress Monday demanded that SAD-BJP government must issue a white paper on utilisation of central funds for welfare schemes and development projects.

In a statement,PPCC general secretary Fateh Jung Singh Bajwa said that state government had “misused the central funds meant for the poor and the scheduled castes and failed to fully utilise the development funds”.

He said,“The state government could not use grants worth over Rs 750 crore under Jawahar Lal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) only because it did not give the matching grant of 25 per cent”.

“Most of the welfare schemes and development projects in Punjab are funded by the Centre. SAD-BJP government can not name a single welfare scheme, which it launched on its own. The state government has not paid money to the beneficiaries of shagun scheme and old age and widow pension for the last many months,” Bajwa said.

He said, “Rs 53 crore for payment of stipend to SC students was diverted for some other purpose. Centre sends about Rs1,000 crore under Sarv Sikhsha Abhiyan, which is either not used or misused.”
