Principal correspondent with The Indian Express Pune, Chandan Haygunde has been selected for the CMS PANOS Young Environmental Journalist Award in the Print Media category. The award will be given during the inaugural ceremony of CMS VATAVARAN 2014 on January 30, 2014 at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) lawns in New Delhi. Haygunde has been selected for his series of investigative stories on the Sahyadri Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra that he wrote between May-June 2012 for The Indian Express that highlighted the presence of government-approved bauxite mines, seven NREGS roads, private construction and a study project to study earthquakes in the region that entailed drilling of five one-km-deep bore holes in the precincts of the highly sensitive eco-zone. The award comprises of a citation, trophy and a cash prize of Rs 25,000.
