THE Election Commission (EC) has introduced a specific symbol for ‘None of the Above (NOTA)’ option. This symbol will appear in the last panel on EVMs and other ballot papers at all elections from now on. Instructions have been issued to all the Chief Electoral Officers in this regard, the EC said Friday.

It may be recalled that the EC had introduced NOTA option on EVMs and all other ballot papers with effect from October11, 2013, pursuant to Supreme Court’s order dated September 27, 2013. The main objective of the option is to enable electors who do not wish to vote for any of the candidates to exercise their right not to vote without violation of the secrecy of their decision.

The symbol has been designed by National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.
