A 43-year-old Dutch national was arrested by Bangalore police on Wednesday for allegedly raping and cheating a 33-year-old Gurgaon-based woman he met through Tinder, a dating app for phones.
The accused, Peter De Druijn, works as director of the Dutch government-sponsored Nufficneso NGO at Sadahalli in Bangalore.
The victim, who holds a masters degree in Business Administration, said in her complaint that she came into contact with Druijn through Tinder on January 9 this year. Later, they got in touch over phone and arranged to meet in Bangalore. He allegedly promised to marry her and they developed a physical relationship while she was in Bangalore for 15 days. Upon returning to Gurgaon, she found that she was pregnant and informed the accused, who allegedly suggested abortion, promising marriage at a later date. She aborted the foetus in March this year, but thereupon, the accused allegedly began to avoid her. The victim then came to Bangalore on Tuesday and filed a complaint with the police.
Police said the accused has denied promising marriage and refuted the rape allegations, saying it was consensual sex.
Both the accused and the woman have been medically examined.
