Drug haul case: Bhola’s another close aide held

The Punjab police on Thursday arrested another aide of alleged drug smuggler and dismissed DSP Jagdish Singh Bhola in connection with the drug haul case.

The Punjab police on Thursday arrested another aide of alleged drug smuggler and dismissed DSP Jagdish Singh Bhola in connection with the drug haul case.

A resident of Ludhiana,Rajwinder Singh alias Raju Rasheen was arrested during checking near minor canal at Jasran village. The police have recovered 5 kg of pseudoephedrine from him — worth Rs 5 crore in the international market. A case was registered against the accused at Mandi Gobindgarh police station under sections 22,61,85 of the NDPS Act.

Rajwinder is a relative of drug peddler Ravi Deol,who in turn is a relative of another accused boxer,Ram Singh. He was also reportedly close to international drug smugglers NRI Anoop Singh Kahlon and Bhola.

Fatehgarh Sahib SSP Hardayal Singh Mann said: “A police party led laid a barricade at Jassran Rajbaha. While checking a white Ford Endeavour vehicle bearing registration number PB-07-Z-0606,5 kg of pseudoephedrine wrapped in a polythene was recovered.” He added that pseudoephedrine was used in preparing “ice” — a sought after drug in rave parties.

During preliminary interrogation,Rajwinder has said that he was the classmate of Toronto resident Gursewak Singh Dhillon. He was getting pseudoephedrine from Ravi Deol and another arrested smuggler,Harpreet Singh,to supply it to Dhillon,who was a regular visitor to India,said police.

Rajwinder Singh is the 18th person to be arrested following recovery of 26 kg of heroin worth over Rs 100 crorefrom the house of a Canada-based NRI Anoop Singh Kahlon at Zirakpur in Mohali on March 3. The case has also been in limelight over alleged links of Olympic medallist boxer Vijender Singh with Kahlon.
