The Central government has decided to set up a unit of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency — Varanasi — to ensure quick relief in case of natural calamity or man-made disasters in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

The force, which comes under the Ministry of Home Affairs’ National Disaster Management Authority, will station a unit on a land area of three acre with 100 personnel ready to combat any natural or man-made disasters. The set up of the unit in Varanasi is largely being seen as a step towards fulfilling the promises that Modi had made for the development of eastern UP.
