The Bhavnagar police have arrested a Gariyadhar-based diamond polishing unit owner, who, along with his two friends, allegedly raped an employee who failed to repay part of a loan on time.

“Dasrath Patel was arrested on Monday night. The other two are still at large, said a police officer, adding that the three had been booked for rape and criminal conspiracy.

The incident had occurred on the intervening night of February 16 and 17.

The police said the medical report of the 19-year-old resident of Gariyadhar confirmed that the girl was raped. The victim, who sustained multiple injuries,is receiving treatment at the Bhavnagar Civil Hospital.

“The girl was beaten up also. Wounds were found all over her body,” said the police.

Police investigation has revealed that the girl and her two other sisters used to work as diamond polishers at Patel’s unit. Two months ago,the sisters had taken a loan of Rs 30,000 from their employer.

While the siblings returned Rs 22,000,the delay in payment of another Rs 8,000 angered Patel, said the police.

“Patel and his friends barged into the victim’s home while their parents had gone to Ahmedabad to arrange for cash and randomly picked one of the three sisters. They took the victim in one of the rooms and locked it from inside, while her two sisters and a brother kept pleading from outside,” said the police.

The matter came to light a day after the incident, when the girl was shifted to Bhavnagar Civil Hospital from a private one at Gariyadhar.
