A daylight robbery in a moving train on Friday morning left at least three persons injured,including a 10-year-old girl. While the incident took place after the train had left Ludhiana station,the robbers managed to flee when the train stopped at Rajpura.
The incident occurred on the Jan Seva Express (unreserved) that plies between Amritsar and Saharsa in Bihar. According to the railway police,two robbers boarded the train at Phagwara. When the train was nearing Ludhiana,they started stealing cash and valuables from the passengers.
The robbers reportedly stole Rs 5,000 and a cellphone from Lakhwinder Singh and Rs 4,000 and a mobile from Subhash Sahni both residents of Bihar. When Sahni tried to offer resistance,one of the robbers fired a shot with a .12 bore country-made pistol. While it hit Sahni,Lakhwinder received splinter injuries. Kajal (10) was also hit by a splinter.
When the train reached Rajpura railway station,the two robbers escaped. The condition of all the three injured is stable.
A case has been registered against two unknown persons under sections 392,307 and 34 the IPC and Section 25 of the arms Act.
