A Dalit teenager’s wrist was cut off by seniors at a village school near Madurai for wearing a wrist watch.

The incident happened on Wednesday night when a gang of seniors waylaid P Ramesh, 16, and attacked him with knives. He was admitted to Sivakasi government hospital.

Police said the boy was questioned by his seniors when they found him wearing a watch in the school on Monday. “After they removed it from his wrist and and tried to throw it away, he tried to resist them and there was a fight. Two days later, while he was walking near the Thiruthangal railway station, a 15-member gang including his seniors waylaid him and cut his wrists with knives,” said the police officer.

After the attack, the boy himself approached a private hospital and later shifted to Sivakasi Government Hospital.

This is the example of "treatment of Dalits" !!First you try to treat them as HUMAN BEINGS, rather than uttering few senseless and emotional words. Your cows are more revered than a Dalit.

Dalits are Hindus and we must reconvert any Dalit who converted to another religion! And then we will continue to treat our Dalit Hindu brothers as we have always treated them.

Such perpetrators deserve nothing less than capital punishment. That should be swift and administered with their families watching.

India is strong enough to deal with such nuisance but it would have been better if your comments were relevant to the news. God help India from sick upper caste inhuman mindset.

Jaihind and Jihad. Don't they sound similar? Ok. Be that as it may.Are these incidences on the rise or are they getting exposed more than ever that we notice? How dependable/ reliable are these sources of news or are we blindly taking all that is in print as Gospel?Whether on rise or decline, one single such dastardly incidence is also condemnable

Sounds right. This county and the countrymen are conditioned to ill treat and oppress dalits. There is also a patent, typified mindset to give a communal twist to all incidents that didn't start due to communal reasons.

@Anand who else in 2014 tries to remove watch from some other student's hand. It is obvious that these sbags were upset that a dalit is wearing a watch. How dare he could? And when he resisted, and he fought off but later on ganged up and cut his wrist.Cutting wrist was a punishment that he wouldn't wear the watch in future.Do you need to be a rocket scientist to understand this?

Yes dalit is required because anybody else wearing the watch wouldn't have gotten any notice from anyone. Dalits are poor wretched people who are not supposed to be wearing anything right Dr. Karthick this century, these things are happening, you should worry about those. This is a caste atrocity of worst kind.

This type of incidents shown mental status of the so called upper casts which are believe that daily are not human and feel to punish. So now it is again ball in the social court. All relative and parents of the criminal should be responsible of such act, who are directly or indirectly involved. Social punishment like Garbage and cleaning of streets of daily area for certain period should be imposed on culprit comunity.

There is no indication this was done because he was a DALIT. Please give only information that can be confirmed. This was an act of brutality regardless of his being a dalit. Please don't add another layer of prejudice

It is an inhumane act irrespective of victim is Dalit or not. But when such incidents happen just because he/she is a dalit and that time no other go they wanna mention the word. I hope that you know we live in a society where the ppl termed as dalits are not even allowed to have a male dog as pet (even in 2014).

As fanatic as the Talibans. Who says Talibans and fanatics are elsewhere in the world. Everyday, we read news of brutal rapes, acid attacks, honour killings, child marriages, you name it, happening in India. This is a real shame for our society, which never misses an opportunity to bash the Talibanis and fanatics.
