The Congress today suffered a major setback in the Malwa region, second in the last few days,as its face in the Bagha Purana constituency Jasbir Kaur Samalsar along with her supporters joined Shiromani Akali Dal in the presence of party president Sukhbir Singh Badal.

A few days ago Congress’s Dalit face Ajit Singh Shant had joined SAD. Samalsar said that the Congress in Punjab has lost its connection with the grassroot leaders as only drawing room politicians were calling the shots.

She said that she was feeling suffocated in the Congress, with its leaders indulging in disruptive politics and creating hurdles for every development project of the state.

Samalsar, who had been president of Mahila Congress, secretary of PPCC,chairperson of block samiti and a member of zila parishad also, said that even after losing Assembly polls the Congress seemed to have learnt no lesson. She added that she was joining SAD impressed by the leadership of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and visionary policies of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.
