Coal scam:CBI court summons Santosh Bagrodia, ex-coal secy

The court summoned the accused for the alleged offences of criminal conspiracy with cheating, criminal breach of trust by public servant under IPC and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The special CBI court Tuesday summoned former Minister of State for Coal Santosh Bagrodia, former coal secretary H C Gupta and retired public servant L S Janoti as accused in a case in connection with the allocation of Maharashtra’s Bander coal block to AMR Iron and Steel Pvt Ltd.

Special CBI judge Bharat Parashar took cognizance of alleged offences punishable under Sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) read with 420 (cheating), 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant) under the IPC and relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and summoned Bagrodia, Gupta and Janoti for August 18.

The summons pertains to the coal block allocation case in which the CBI had chargesheeted Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Darda, his son Devendra Darda, AMR Iron and Steel Pvt Ltd and its Director Manoj Jayaswal as accused.

Earlier, the court had stated that since Janoti was an active public servant, prior sanction of competent authority was needed to prosecute him. With Janoti retiring on May 31, the court said Tuesday that now there was “no bar” on taking cognizance of the offence against him.
