CM announces Rs 1,199-cr compensation package

CM Prithviraj Chavan announced Tuesday a package of Rs 1,199.6 crore for people affected by the Gosikhurd reservoir. He said rehabilitation would be completed this fiscal.

“Cabinet approval will be sought and funds made available through supplementary demands,” Chavan said after visiting region’s biggest irrigation project with Union Heavy Industries Minister Praful Patel. He said a separate office with 120 staff would be set up to facilitate the rehabilitation.

Earlier in the day,he laid the foundation stone for the Rs 500-crore power equipment fabrication plant to be constructed by BHEL at Mundipar. Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and Patel were also present.

Residents of three villages are being evicted for the 500-acre project with land acquisition at Rs 9.5 lakh per acre and Rs 6 lakh for house construction.
