The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Gurgaon police probing the death of CJM Ravneet Gargs wife,Geetanjali, have pressed additional charges against him under Section 304 B of the IPC.
According to a SIT officer, the charge of Section 304 (B) (unnatural death due to dowry harassment) has been filed against Garg and his parents,K K Garg and Rachna Garg in addition to the charges of murder (IPC Section 302) after a supplementary complaint filed by Geetanjalis brother Pradeep Agrawal at the Sector 15 Civil Lines police station last week.
According to Civil Lines SHO Naresh Kumar, although Gitanjalis relatives had filed a written complaint on July 21 alleging death due to dowry harassment, they had not submitted documents in support of that charge.
They have now provided documents proving that luxury cars, cash and other valuable items were given to Garg and his family members. Thus, police have booked Ravneet Garg, his father K K Garg and mother Rachna, under Section 304B (dowry death) of IPC, Kumar said.
Pradeep said: We e-mailed all documentary evidence on the demands for dowry to the police on the day we filed the complaint.
The SIT team was present at the crime scene on Tuesday to look for the remaining two bullets. Investigations had confirmed that six bullets had been fired from the CJMs licensed revolver. Only four had been recovered so far.
Geetanjali Garg was found shot dead in a high security police lines compound on July 17.
Upon a request from the relatives of the deceased,Haryana government had on July 23 recommended a CBI probe into the matter. The CBI,however,is yet to take over the case, the SHO added.
Pardeep Aggarwal, the brother of the deceased, said that even after spending huge sums on his sisters marriage with Ravneet in 2007,the CJMs family kept ill-treating her, demanding expensive gifts and cash.
