Buddha didn’t quit Hinduism, says top RSS functionary

The RSS leader said Buddha only propagated values like mercy, love, compassion, and affection which, in fact, are the essence of Hinduism.

A top RSS functionary on Monday suggested that Lord Buddha never declared leaving Hinduism to form a new religion. Speaking at a condolence meeting, RSS joint general secretary Krishna Gopal blamed the British for trying to divide Hindu religion.

“Buddhists are not Hindus and Hindus are not Buddhist. There are deep differences between them; that one derives from Vedic traditions while the other follows non-Vedic traditions. Britishers tried to establish these beliefs deeply,” Gopal said at Jhandewalan.

“Buddhist intellectuals know that Lord Buddha remained a Hindu life-long. Never in his life did he declare to have quit Hindu religion or Sanatan religion or Vedic religion to form a new religion or sect. He never said so,” Gopal said. The RSS leader said Buddha only propagated values like mercy, love, compassion, and affection which, in fact, are the essence of Hinduism.

“Slowly, he developed a tradition of meditation. He proceeded on the tradition to overcome misery. Mercy, love, compassion and affection are the essence of Vedic religion, of the entire Hindu religion,” Krishna Gopal said.

“Yes, he distanced from some rituals. He did not address few questions because those issues used to create controversy. Whether God exists, whether aatma is real… questions are not easy to answer in a fashion where everyone could agree. That is why Buddha remained silent,” he said.

Buddha appeared when world was thick in the grip of ignorance....he taught dhamma the universal law of nature....he cleaned the society from BRHAMANIC domination and expoliataion....prevailing at that point of humane history.....we are all hindu ,indu, indian ,hindustani. bharat,,bharti......there is no one an authority on Hindu as a religion...so buddha was born into an ignorant society and through effort got enlightened and taught dhamma.........so he was never a Hindu in religious sense....he was human being, who showed human potential to the height of enlightenment free from ignorance .....

RSS "intentions" are irrelevant here. They are factually and historically correct. Buddha like Mahavira never intended to start a "new religion". They wanted to reform Hinduism by diluting certain rituals

Casteism is a disease which is social, NOT RELIGIOUS! Mmriti itself is 50% against the Vedas. Perhaps it would have been adulterated or something is not for sure but Vedas declare that every human has equal rights on worshipping and education! There is no Casteism mentioned in Vedas. The Purusha Sukta tells that every human being on earth is a Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya and Shudra at the same time as everyone has Mouth, Arms, Thighs and Feet....Also when it comes to untouchablity, an too being Buddhist has an ugly Caste System! The Hukong system of East Asia is also said to be a form of Caste System...Also the caste system exists in Buddhists, as everyone is not a Bhikku or a normal Householder!Adi ShankaraCharya, the propunder of Advaita philosophy who is also a target of stupid "humanists" said that everyone born in this world is a Shudra and everyone has the capacity and right to become a Brahmin through knowledge!
