Senior Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Vinod Kumar Seeta on Saturday allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself at his residence in Ranjeet Nagar area. Senior police officers said the exact cause was yet to be ascertained but initial investigation revealed that Seeta was ‘depressed’.

No suicide note recovered from the spot.

Seeta was a former district president of Bahujan Samaj Party and unsuccessfully contested assembly elections twice on BSP ticket — in 2007 and 2012.

His grandfather, Bishna Ram, was among the first MLAs of Nawanshahr district. The deceased’s elder son, Abhishek, said his father went to take a bath around noon when the  generator was on because power supply was off.

Due to the generator’s noise, they could not hear the gunshot, said his family.
