A 50-year-old man was battered to death by his brother at Khairat village in Haryanas Jind district late on Sunday. The accused was arrested on Monday.
Since the deceased,Randhir (50),did not have any immediate family member, his body was handed over to his relatives following the postmortem examination for last rites. Randhir had lost his wife a few years ago. The couple did not have a child.
According to the police,Randhir and his brother Rohtash, both were consuming alcohol when the incident took place. Randhir and Rohtash entered into a argument. Rohtash, who is short-tempered,picked up a wooden stick and repeatedly hit Randhirs on his head till he died. He then fled but was arrested on Monday. Randhir bled to death, said Jullana police station SHO Virender Singh. Rohtash was produced in court on Monday, which remanded him to judicial custody. Randhirs postmortem examination revealed that he had died due to injuries inflicted by a blunt weapon.
Randhir and Rohtash owned a minor chunk of land. As such there does not appear to be a property dispute. The incident appears to have happened by chance. Rohtashs preliminary interrogation revealed that Randhir demanded another drink, which Rohtash refused. This led to a argument,a scuffle followed and Rohtash killed Randhir, Singh added.
