Chandigarh: A day after he was arrested by the Punjab Police,Gurvinder Singh alias Baba Panesar,reportedly divulged the names of several others who had allegedly assaulted Punjab IAS officer at gobind Ghat in Uttarakhand recently. The chief of an SIT,formed to investigate into the assault,Sanjiv Kalra said details of Panesars interrogation cannot be revealed at this stage as it may hamper the course of the investigation. However,he hinted that more arrests may be made in the next few days. The cyber crime cell had Sunday arrested Panesar,a Ludhiana resident,for allegedly uploading a video of the attack on on social networking sites. He is currently in police custody. Sources in the police department said that Panesar had initially refused to admit that he was present there when the attack took place. However,he later admitted that he was only a by-stander.
Haryana cops crack Kurukshetra murder
CHANDIGARH: Haryana Police Monday arrested eight people for their alleged involvement in a May 12 murder of a youth,Ajay,who was found in Kurukshetra district bearing gunshot wounds. The arrested were identified as Rajender Kumar,Sushil alias Silli,Pradeep Singh,Ajmer Singh,Gaurav alias Gulshan Kumar,Harpal,Pradeep Kumar and Rakesh Kumar. Police had earlier arrested two other accused Balbir Singh and Dalbir,based on a complaint filed by Ajays father Dhanpat.
3-month extension for Chhatar Singh
CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government has re-employed Chhatar Singh on the post of principal secretary to Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Recently,Hooda had written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asking him to retain Singh as his principal secretary. Though Chhatar Singh had retired on March 31,he was given an extension of three months by the state government,which had lapsed on June 30.
Punjab clears subsidy for agri power tariff
CHANDIGARH: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Monday gave his nod to subsidy worth Rs 1.16 crore for metered electric supply at agriculture power (AP) tariff to dairy,goatry,piggery and fish farmers besides others engaged in hi-tech and density cultivation of fruits and vegetables.
Punjab finance dept starts work online
CHANDIGARH: The Punjab finance department bagan online operations from Monday. Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa said with the training to all concerned officials completed,the department has started to receive online fund proposals.
