Amritsar: Three members of a family were killed in Tarn Taran on Sunday after the motorcycle they were riding on collided with a car. Katora village resident Partap Singh,wife Salwinder Kaur and 10-year-old daughter Sandeep Kaur were on their way to Tarn Taran when they were hit by the car. The police said Salwinder died on the spot,and Partap and Sandeep succumbed to their injuries in a hospital.

Khaira slams SAD’s Goa shivir plans

Jalandhar: Former Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira on Sunday said the chintan shivir of a Panthic party like SAD in Goa,was not only a mockery of its ideology but also comes at a time when Punjab was facing crisis on all fronts. “The selection of a tourist destination like Goa,known for its beaches and casinos,is diametrically opposite to Akali and Panthic ideology and definitely not a place for serious deliberations,” Khaira said.

15.10 lakh children administered polio drops

Chandigarh: Around 15.10 lakh children,below five years of age,were administered polio drops in 13 districts of Haryana on Sunday,on the first day of a three-day Sub-National Immunisation round of Pulse Polio 2013-14. The districts included Ambala,Faridabad,Gurgaon,Jhajjar,Karnal,Kurukshetra,Mewat,Palwal,Panchkula,Panipat,Rohtak,Sonipat and Yamuna Nagar. A total of 26 lakh children are targeted to be covered during the campaign in the state.

Punjab to prepare master plan for canals

Chandigarh: In a bid to revamp the irrigation network in the state,the Punjab government will prepare a Master Plan for all the canals in the state. Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said that under the plan,all macro and micro component calculations should be down to strengthen the existing irrigation network,so that a majority of farmers in the state could be benefited,besides saving a large quantity of water.

INLD to protest in Delhi on April 10

Chandigarh: INLD leaders will stage a protest on April 10 against the ruling Haryana Congress government’s failure to order a probe into the controversial obscene MMS allegedly featuring veteran Congress leader Shamsher Singh Surjewala in an objectionable manner. The women wing of INLD and other leaders of the party will protest at the Jantar Mantar.

Man,sister held for rape,conspiracy

Chandigarh: The Jind police on Sunday arrested a man,Vinod,on charges of wrongful confinement and rape. His sister Mukesh was arrested on charges of being his accomplice in the crime. While Mukesh was sent to Borstal jail,Vinod was sent to judicial custody by the Jind court on Sunday. On April 5,a 19-year-old girl alleged that Mukesh had taken her to a house where Vinod was present. She further alleged that Mukesh left the room where she (victim) was present with Vinod,after bolting the door from outside and Vinod allegedly raped. The girl’s medical examination confirmed rape.

Badal reviews flood protection measures

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday reviewed the flood protection measures in the state and directed the state machinery to make all the necessary arrangements,to tackle any kind of emergency,during monsoons. Badal also directed the finance department to release Rs 56 crore to the irrigation department to make necessary flood protection arrangements in the state.
