The BJP will launch a mega membership drive on November 1 with the slogan Saath Aaye Desh Banaye (Come together, build the nation). For the first time, people can join the BJP by using mobile and Internet services.

On November 1, during an event at the party headquarters, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the first BJP leader to have his membership renewed through a text message. Party chief Amit Shah will register Modi as a member and Modi will do the same for Shah. According to BJP’s constitution, every member should renew his or her membership after six years.

“Since we got tremendous support in the general elections and for BJP-led government’s welfare schemes as well as PM Modi’s leadership, we are launching a mega drive to enable people’s participation,” BJP general secretary J P Nadda said.

Nadda said every time the BJP goes on an enrolment mission, its support strengthens by at least 20 per cent. “This time all records will be broken,” he said. The BJP currently has 3.5 crore primary members.

The party has planned a massive campaign to make this possible. It has already prepared special caps, t-shirts, scarves and banners with photographs of both Modi and Shah. The party is organising special workshops for party workers to give tips on enrolling members from all sections of society. These workshops will be held in Bangalore, New Delhi and Kolkata from October 29 to 31.

The BJP, which used to enrol members by filling forms, has decided to simplify the process. Anyone can register their names by making a call to the number given by the party or online, where services will be available in Hindi, English and regional languages.
