Maharashtra Congress on Sunday said the transfer and subsequent resignation of Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan is yet another bid by the BJP-led Central government to belittle the importance and prestige of constitutional posts.

In a statement issued here, Maharashtra Congress party president Manikrao Thakre said bureaucrats ask governors to step down and if they don’t comply, transfer orders are issued after midnight.

“This is a dangerous trend in a democracy,” he said. He said Prime Minister’s official engagements are used for politics. Chief Ministers are humiliated in Prime Minister’s presence, he said.

The post of the Governor is not Consutional post. It is more difficult to remove a Mayor of a Munil Corporation or a Chairman of a Munil Committee from his post because they are elected. The Uttarakhand Governor had told that he was appointed on this post with the blessings of Congress President.

Totally agree... Governor and president positions are used by Congi only for their political maneuvering than to provide any good.. They all together leached tax payers money while the national economy was flushed down the drain... What really bothers me is that still 44 out of the 530 consuencies are still ignorant of the atrocities of these bandits...

All the gubernatorial appointments were made by Sonia hi only at her whim and fancy and political expediency without regard to any other relevant matter like qualifications, dignified personality and non-partisan outlooks; Mr. Sankaranarayanan is a former Congi, appointed as Gov. by Sonia and hence the "resentment" to his transfer. She even got a useless Prathibha Patil (a former Congress party woman) elected as the President of India and all the latter did in her 5-yr term was visit as many nations as possible as a "diplomatic" VIP tourist spending over Rs 200 crores. Sonia also got Pranab Mukherjee elected as the President, mainly to remove him in the way of Rahul becoming the PM of India.

When Congress-led UPA Govts. used gubernatorial postings as reward for party loyalty or to provide immunity from prosecution for scams, what is wrong for the new Govt. to get rid of such persons? Congress and UPA have done the same to governors appointed by the then non-Congress Govts. in power.
