As campaigning for zila parishad and block samiti polls came to an end on a bloody note with two more persons being killed in poll-related violence in Amritsar district,Opposition parties upped the ante against against the SAD-BJP government.

Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa demanded resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal for “his failure to control the law and order” situation and described him as the “main architect behind political murders and gun-brandishing mafias” in Punjab.

“Sukhbir is a total failure as home minister and he has no right to continue in power. Punjab is heading for a state of total anarchy,as no rule of law existed and Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has become the prisoner of the whims and fancies of his son,” Bajwa said.

Demanding an explanation from Sukhbir on spate of “political” killings in the run up to the block samiti and zila parishad elections,Bajwa said Sukhbir was keeping a conspicuous silence over such incidents,“which vindicate the Congress’ allegations of his tacit support to criminal elements in his party”.

“Sukhbir hasn’t uttered a word against political violence in Adampur village even 24 hours after the incident. His silence is even more serious when the incident happened in the constituency of his MP wife,” he added.

Lashing out at the Punjab Police,Bjawa claimed police officers were labelling these killings as personal enmity without holding any investigation. “Even if it is personal enmity, are these murders justified?” he asked.
