Less than a month after targetting SDM of Nalagarh,Yunus,it was the turn of SP (Baddi) S Arul Kumar,an IPS officer,to face the mining mafia in the Nalagarh -Baddi belt of Solan district in Himachal Pradesh.

Two tractor-trolleys without valid permits carrying sand obstructed and blocked the SP’s vehicle when he was going to Manpura Khad.

When contacted, the Director General of Police,Sanjay Kumar, confirmed the incident and said an FIR under Section 341 IPC and Section 21 of the Mining Act has been lodged. However,he said the incident “is not as serious as it is being made out.”

According to reports, the incident occurred around 8.30 pm on Tuesday (August 27) between Nalagarh and Baddi areas. The FIR lodged by Satpal Singh, driver of the SP’s vehicle (HP 12C 7001) says that while the SP accompanied by his gunman Subhash Chand and SI Tara Singh was moving towards Manpura khad to check illegal mining two tractors came from the front and blocked the road by parking their vehicles right in front of the SP’s official vehicle.

“They stopped us from moving ahead forcing the SP to come out of his vehicle and ask for reasons for obstructing the road. Both the tractor trolleys were carrying sand and they did not have any valid permissions/permits,” according to the FIR.

The police said one tractor (registration no PC 12T 0793) was being driven by Gurjinder Singh son of Deedar Singh Saini of village Kishanpura Baddi while the other was without any registration number. Both were seized and brought to Baddi police station.
