Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday flagged off the first-of-its-kind mobile laboratory that will tour the state’s rural areas and impart lessons on computers,physics and chemistry. Speaking at the launch ceremony,Badal appreciated the efforts of the Rayat-Bahra group of colleges for launching the endeavour that,he hoped,will change the teaching scenario in Punjab. The mobile bus will help school students perform laboratory experiments and educate villagers on salient features of technology like sending mail on the Internet,browsing social networking sites and even enabling video conference. A fleet of ten buses will be inducted to cover schools within radius of 10 kilometres from four of the group’s campuses in Mohali,Ropar,Hoshiarpur and Patiala. In its first phase,it will cover the villages of Sahauran,Sohana,Banur,Daun,Ballomajra,Daun Majra,Khanpur,Jandpur and Ramgarh.

Each mobile bus has lab facilities for physics,chemistry and computers and costs around Rs 25 lakh.
