Mumbai Police Crime Branch made a fifth arrest Tuesday in the murder case of Navi Mumbai builder S K Lohariya.

Police claimed Altaf Khan (38) of Mumbra was involved in execution of the murder and that they had proof of this.

Additional commissioner of police (crime) Niket Kaushik said: “We arrested Altaf Khan on Tuesday.”

Crime Branch sources said Khan had a direct link with retired police inspector Emmanuel Amolik, the second person to be arrested in the case.

Amolik is accused of having ordered and overseen the killing. Khan was his local contact when he was with Mumbra police.

“Apart from the fact that the name of Khan came up during interrogation of Amolik,Wajid Qureshi and Venkatesh Shettiar,we had information from sources that he was involved in the murder,” said a crime branch officer.

Police are now investigating his exact role in the murder and checking if Khan and Qureshi knew each other and had worked together in the past.

Lohariya was shot outside his office in Vashi in February by Shettiar, while Qureshi drove the getaway motorcycle. Real estate agent, developer Sumit Bachchewar was also arrested last week.
