Ambala student falls after being hit by cop,truck runs him over

Students of a private college,Gandhi National Memorial College in Ambala,went on a rampage on Wednesday after a police officer beat up a fellow student,leading to him falling on the road and being run over by a truck on Wednesday

afternoon.

The incident occurred when the deceased,identified as Amardeep,was returning home from college. Amardeep,who fell from the motorcycle after being hit by a policeman with a baton,was run over by pick-up truck from behind,resulting in his death near the road adjacent to the civil hospital. He was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Following the incident,irate students blocked traffic,burnt a police motorcycle and also ransacked the window panes of some buses. Later,two police officers,including an ASI,were arrested for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The protest was lifted only after senior police officers visited the spot.

“Assistant sub-inspector Devraj and head constable Madan Lal have been booked,” said Panchkula Police Commissioner (Ambala range) Rajbir Deswal.

“The police have initiated an inquiry into the matter and are collecting evidence against the students who damaged public property. A departmental inquiry has been ordered into the incident,” said Ambala DCP Vinod Kaushik.
