After a reshuffle in the state IAS administration,the Modi Government has now transferred 47 IPS officers,including Police Commissioner of Surat and Rajkot,ahead of the Lok Sabha elections to be held in a couple of months.
It may be noted that during the last Assembly elections in 2007,the Election Commission had transferred a number of senior IPS officials including state DGP P C Pande,and Vadodara Police Commissioner P C Thakur.
In the present round of transfers,the state Government has shunted out all the controversial officials to non-executive postings.
Geeta Johri,who was Deputy Inspector General CID (crime),has been promoted and posted as Commissioner of Police,Rajkot.
Johri is supervising the work of Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Supreme Court to probe a few riot cases afresh.
Earlier,she had investigated the fake encounter case of Sohrabuddin and disappearance of his wife Kausar Bi,which led to the arrest of three IPS officials including D G Vanzara,Rajkumar Pandian and Dinesh M N.
Deepak Swarup,who was additional DG of SC/ST cell,has been posted as Commissioner of Police,Surat in place of R M S Brar,who has been transferred and posted as commandant general,home guards and civil defence,Gandhinagar. Sudhir Sinha,Commissioner of Police Rajkot,has been posted as DG,Law and Order in Gandhinagar police headquarters.
Additional DG of armed unit S S Khandwavala has been promoted and posted as Director General of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while Amitabh Pathak,additional DG of law and order,has been posted as additional DG,administration.
Rajkot special Inspector General (IG) V V Rabari has been promoted and posted as additional DG of CID (crime) in Gandhinagar.
The Superintendents of Police of a number of districts like Kheda,Patan,Junagadh,Rajkot (rural),Vadodara (rural),Mehsana,Bharuch and Sabarkantha,too,have been transferred.
