A day after Pakistani singer Ustad Ghulam Ali’s concert in Mumbai titled ‘Ek Ehsaas – Chaudavin Ki Raat’ was cancelled following Shiv Sena’s protest, a concert of the maestro which was scheduled to be held on October 10 at Ganesh Kala Krida Manch in Pune was also called off.
Randhir Ranjan Roy, the business head and founder of Mumbai-based Panache Media, said, “The decision of cancellation of Pune concert was taken yesterday itself when we decided to cancel Mumbai concert.” The Mumbai concert was to be held on Friday at Shanmukhananda Hall.
Panache Media has organised a number of Ghulam Ali’s concerts in the country in the past; this year’s concert was organised on the occasion of fourth death anniversary of the ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh. Roy added that the shows in both the cities were completely sold out. “Everyone will be given a refund of the amount paid for the tickets,” he said. While the Mumbai concert tickets priced between Rs 499 to Rs 5,000 per ticket, the price of Pune concert ranged between Rs 500 to Rs 2,500.
The Facebook page of the Ek Ehsaas Concerts had a post written on Thursday afternoon that read, “We regret to announce the cancellation of Ek Ehsaas Live concert by Ustad Ghulam Ali in Mumbai on 9th October and Pune 10th October due to some unavoidable circumstances. All online tickets will be refunded in 5 to 8 working days.”
It was on Wednesday that the Shiv Sena’s film indutry arm named the Chitrapat Sena, had submitted a letter to the admin department of the Shanmukhananda Hall, asking them to cancel the function and threatened that if their demand will not be followed, they will launch a protest in ‘Sena style’. On the other hand, an official from Pune’s Ganesh Kala Krida Manch stated, “We have not been contacted by any representatives of Shiv Sena. We have just received a letter from the organisers which states the concert has been cancelled.”
