The Erramanzil court in Hyderabad sentenced Telugu film actress Jeevitha Rajashekhar to two years’ simple imprisonment in a cheque bounce case on Monday.
The court also directed the actress to furnish a personal bond of Rs 25 lakh and two sureties of the same amount.
C Parandhama Reddy, a Telugu film financier, had filed a case against Jeevitha in June 2013 after two cheques amounting to Rs 21.75 lakh issued by her were not honoured by the bank.
The actress had borrowed Rs 34 lakh from Reddy to produce a movie in 2006.
“In spite of several requests, the actress did not pay the amount. I had to approach the court after she stopped responding to my calls,’’ Reddy said.
The case was transferred to a fast track court in January 2014.
Jeevitha took a loan of Rs 34 lakh, Reddy said. He added that she gave promissory notes, two cheques with an undertaking that she would return the amount in three months.
Jeevitha is married to actor D Rajashekar who has acted in over 100 films. The couple recently joined the BJP in Telangana and she was appointed as one of the spokespersons.
