An eight-year-old boy died after he was crushed between a tractor trolley and the main gate of his school in Hoshiarpur district on Wednesday.

Gulshan,a Class II student Government Elementary School at Bhangala, was playing with his friends during recess time. The said tractor trolley came to the school to deliver mid-day meal consignment at the anganwari centre — also located at the school premises.

As the tractor trolley was leaving after delivering the consignment,Gulshan clung to the trolley. When the vehicle was leaving from the main gate of the school, the child was crushed between the gate and the trolley. He died on his way to the hospital.

Later, irate villagers and relatives of Gulshan sat on a dharna at the school with his body, demanding action against the trolley driver and school teachers for their alleged negligence. They lifted the dharna only after they were assured that action will be taken by the police and civil administration.

“We are yet to register a case yet,as the parents of the child have not recorded their statements,” Mukerain Station House Officer Harbhajan Singh said. Son of daily wager Amarjit Singh,Gulshan was youngest among three siblings.

Parents of students of the school said at least one teacher must be on duty during recess time to observe that children do not indulge in such acts.
