Having remained grounded for close to two years, Janam TV — a proposed news-cum-entertainment channel in Kerala — looks set for a year-end launch with the MHA granting it requisite permissions.

As reported by The Indian Express on June 23, the proposed Kerala-based Malayalam TV channel, promoted by a group of NRI and Indian businessmen, had failed to secure clearances from the UPA government as it allegedly had reservations about some of the channel’s promoters having “links with the RSS and BJP”.

The matter was brought to PM Narendra Modi’s attention, following which he is learnt to have asked the Cabinet Secretary to look into the matter, who, in turn, reportedly spoke to the Home Secretary.
