2 ULFA couriers carrying bomb to Guwahati killed in blast

The ULFA, along with five other rebel groups in the region, have called for a boycott of Republic Day.

Desoite security arrangements in Assam being beefed up ahead of Republic Day, two suspected ULFA couriers were killed when a bomb they were carrying went off in their car.

The incident occurred near Umrongsu in Dima Hasao district, about 400 km from Guwahati. Assam Police Additional DG (Law & Order) A P Rout said the bomb was being taken from a neighbouring state to Guwahati when it accidentally went off.

On the basis of a PAN card found in the car, one of the deceased has been identified as Md Aminuddin of Nagaon district.

The car belonged to one Md Sahabuddin.

The ULFA, along with five other rebel groups in the region, have called for a boycott of Republic Day.

Meanwhile, the police arrested an ULFA militant, Simanta Rabha, in Goalpara district Friday. “A group of ULFA militants have been tasked by their leader Drishti Rajkhowa to carry out acts of sabotage in Goalpara and Guwahati,” Goalpara SP Nitul Gogoi said.
