2 poachers held with 3 deer legs, gun
Two poachers were arrested and three legs of a Sambar deer, a country-made gun and two kgs of gunpowder seized were from them, at Kavindapady village, forest department officials said. Acting on a tip off, the officials went to the village late Tuesday night and nabbed two of the four persons entering a house with a gunny bag with deer legs and the country gun.When questioned, the two reportedly admitted that the gang had recently killed a sambar deer, consumed the meat and then sold the leg pieces to the house owner, who was arrested.
3 executed by tribal militants for refusing to pay extortion
Three persons were executed by tribal militants after they refused to pay extortion money, while one escaped with bullet injuries in Meghalaya’s West Garo Hills district, police said Wednesday. Four persons, including a contractor — Rutherford R Marak — were kidnapped by militants Sunday when they went to Sasatgre-Chandigre village to inspect a project for erecting an electric line for the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana, the police said. The four were taken by the militants towards the Nokrek Biospere hills.
The civic agency had announced the distribution of three LED bulbs to each of its 12,000 employees.
