The members of the 16th Lok Sabha on Thursday met on Day 2 for the oath-taking ceremony. After Protem Speaker Kamal Nath addressed the House, he first invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take oath as a member of Lok Sabha.

Veteran BJP leader L K Advani and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi were the next to take oath. Later, several Cabinet Ministers, including Sushma Swaraj, Ram Vilas Paswan and Rajnath Singh took the oath.

Attired in spotless white, the Prime Minister was the first to take oath amid thumping of desks. He took oath in Hindi in the name of God and was followed by BJP veteran L K Advani.

Several Union ministers took oath in Hindi in the name of God, with Sushma Swaraj, Uma Bharti and Harsh Vardhan taking oath in Sanskrit.

Sonia Gandhi made the affirmation in Hindi and so did Minister Ram Vilas Paswan.

Several ministers preferred to take oath in their mother tongue, including D V Sadananda Gowda, Ananth Kumar and G M Siddheshwara, who took oath in Kannada. Sarbananda Sonowal took oath in Assamese and Jual Oram in Odia.

Senior members Arjun Charan Sethi (BJD), P A Sangma (NPP) and Biren Singh Engti (Cong), appointed on the Panel of
Chairpersons by the President to help the Protem Speaker in oath taking process, took oath after Prime Minister Modi, Advani and Gandhi.

Cold vibes between Sonia Gandhi and Maneka Gandhi were visible during the oath taking as both exchanged pleasantries rather reluctantly.

Protem Speaker Kamal Nath was the only member who had taken oath on Wednesday as the House was adjourned on the first day of the new Lok Sabha following death of Minister Gopinath Munde on June 3.

Before initiating oath taking process, Nath welcomed all members, especially those of newly-formed Telanga and residuary Andhra Pradesh.

After oath taking by members of the Council of Ministers and members from Andaman and Nicobar and Andhra Pradesh, the Protem Speaker called former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda and two former Deputy Speakers Karia Munda and M Thambidurai to take oath.

The Prime Minister was present till the members of his Council of Ministers took oath.

After having attacked the large number of government projects and schemes named for members of the Congress Party's Nehru-hi dynasty during the election, he stopped his ministers from renaming these programmes, saying it was more important to get them to work more effectively.

After winning of 2014 Lok Sabha election, Mr Narendra Modi’s all tweet to a prominent adversary, with whom he had crossed swords in the past, was one of many signals to the nation that he was putting old enmities behind him.

BJP and Mr Narendra Modi beneing from the Westminster-style ‘first-past-the-post’ system in consuencies with multiple contesting parties. But coming as it did from a man with a retion of brooking no dissent and riding roughshod over opposition during his twelve years at the helm in Gujarat, it was a welcome surprise.

In a series of speeches, Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi has gone out of his way to avoid confrontational language, to omit issues and imagery that India's religious minorities would find offensive, and to extend a hand of friendship to his critics.

In a striking departure from precedent, Mr Narendra Modi also quelled concerns in India's neighbourhood about his rise by inviting the heads of government of India's seven South Asian neighbours, as well as that of Mauritius (the Indian Ocean republic whose potion is 63 percent Indian), to his swearing-in.

Mr Narendra Modi breaks the path but for how many days?. India's prime ministers have never enjo lavish inaugurations like American presidents, traditionally uming office after sply-attended and low-key oath-takings behind closed doors.

Mr Narendra Modi early Cabinet appointments rewarded the party's brighter and younger professionals, omitting many of the Hindu nationalist veterans and rabid ideologues who epitomized many Indians' anxieties about the BJP.

‘I will be prime minister of all Indians, including those who did not vote for me,’ Mr Modi announced in one of his first speeches. Cynics might point out that this was only prudent, since his party won its resounding majority with just 31 percent of the national vote.
