Thackeray to raise Sena demand with Pranab

Mayor Sunil Prabhu said on Thursday that Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray would present to Presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee the party’s demand for Central rule in the disputed border areas of Belgaum when he meets the latter on Friday.

Mayor Sunil Prabhu said on Thursday that Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray would present to Presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee the party’s demand for Central rule in the disputed border areas of Belgaum when he meets the latter on Friday.

At the general body meeting of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation on Thursday,corporators voiced their support for dismissed mayor of Belgaum Manda Balekundri but differed on what the BMC’s response to the issue should be. Leader of the Opposition and Congress corporator Dnyanraj Nikam said he supported the mayor but asked how the ruling alliance that includes the BJP can oppose the ruling party in Karnataka. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena corporator Dilip Lande said the injustice meted out to the Belgaum civic body should be met with justice. “Raj Thackeray will talk to BJP leader Nitin Gadkari about this,” he said. “If a Marathi-speaking population wants to be part of a Marathi-speaking state – what is the problem?” asked Ashraf Azami,Samajwadi Party corporator. Calling for all parties to come to the discussion table,he said,“The BJP rules Karnataka and the Congress rules the Centre but both are doing nothing to alleviate the problems of this area except talking language politics.”
