Security upped at US offices in Mumbai

Following the attacks on US diplomatic missions in some Muslim countries over a film showing Prophet Mohammed in poor light,security had been stepped up at American establishments in the city,police said on Thursday.

Following the attacks on US diplomatic missions in some Muslim countries over a film showing Prophet Mohammed in poor light,security had been stepped up at American establishments in the city,police said on Thursday.

“There is already enough security at the US consulate in Bandra-Kurla Complex. But after the Libya attack,security has been increased further,” police said.

He said though there was no specific alert about any threat to the consulate and other US offices,security was beefed up as a precaution after Tuesday’s attack on the American consulate in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi that claimed the lives of J Christopher Stevens and three other diplomats. A mob armed with guns and rockets stormed the consulate,angry at the film ‘Innocence of Muslims’. Protests were also witnessed at US diplomatic missions in Egypt and Yemen.
