The death toll at Sanjeev Agro Private Limited explosion in Khanna reached eight on Thursday with two of the injured succumbing to burn injuries. One patient died at PGIMER,Chandigarh,while the other breathed his last at GMCH. At least eleven other injured are undergoing treatment different hospitals.

Six people were burnt alive after an explosion triggered a massive fire at a plant,Sanjeev Agro Pvt Ltd,owned by Naval Kishore Aggarwal,on Tuesday. The factory produces rice bran oil for use in making soaps and toiletries.

When contacted,DSP Khanna Vikash Sabharwal said: “We have informed the police heads of the districts from where the labourers had come. Hopefully,their families will arrive soon to take their bodies.”

Incidentally,while Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rahul Tewari had on Wednesday announced that a police case will be registered against the factory owners,the Khanna police has different plans. “We will take action after the magisterial inquiry — one has been ordered by the DC — is completed,” DSP Sabharwal said.

When asked,the DC said: “The police takes the final call,but they need not wait for our report. In case they see a congnizable offence,they can go ahead and file an FIR.”
