To ensure that she can vote for the July 19 Presidential election, former state minister Bibi Jagir Kaur on Monday moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking interim bail for two days. Alongside,Kaur, who stands convicted for five years in the abduction and forcible abortion case of her daughter Harpreet Kaur, also filed a regular bail application.

The plea for interim bail, however, was not entertained,as one of the judges in a division bench recused from hearing it. The application is likely to come up for hearing on Tuesday.

Kaur has sought regular bail on the ground that the only charge against her is of terminating her daughter’s pregnancy, which falls flat after “the trial court did not believe the statement of the complainant and the approver”. She also claimed that the co-accused,who stand convicted in the same case, have already been released on bail.
