Pune Cantonment Court on Tuesday granted bail to businessman Jayant Pawar, nephew of Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar,in connection with a case of alleged liquor party at his Hotel River View in Mundhwa on August 25. The court also granted bail to Sharad Pingale, the owner of the land in Mundhwa.
Police had booked both of them under Section 33 and 131 of the Bombay Police Act for organising the party where liquor was allegedly served to minors without permission.
Pawar appeared personally before judicial magistrate (first class) V Muglikar while advocate Sunil Gumle represented Pingale. Gumle told the court that Pingale had given the land to Pawar on lease for 30 years in 2007 and is not responsible for the party. Pawars counsel Gaurav Jachak argued party was organised by an event management company after seeking police permission but as more than expected people joined the party it was not possible to keep a check on all.
The magistrate held both responsible for the party but granted them bail on furnishing cash security of Rs 10,000 each.
