The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday asked the Punjab government to explain why it had till now not appointed a chairperson and other members for the Punjab State Women Commission. The query was put forth during the hearing of a PIL filed by HELP,a Nawashahar NGO.
The petitioner stated that there was one post of chairperson, and five posts of non-official members in the body, but the post of chairperson had been vacant since December 30,2011. Four non-official members also retired during the intervening period.
As per the petitioner, there was only one non-official member,Parveen Sharma, who was working and had not been given his salary since May.
