As many as eight Nagpur police officers have landed in Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) net in the past year.

Close on the heels of the arrest of a senior inspector in a graft case, three constables were caught on Friday while accepting Rs 5,000 from a scrap dealer.

Head Constable Vijay Salve and constables Rajendra Punekar and Nikesh Hazare were allegedly harassing scrap-dealer Rajkumar Sahu, threatening to implicate him in false cases if he didn’t pay up. On Friday, they went to Sahu’s shop and demanded money. As soon as Sahu handed over the bribe to them,ACB sleuths caught them.

The policemen appear to have been undeterred by the September 24 arrest of Senior PI Arun Rautwar of Sonegaon police station for accepting bribe for not pushing for extension of custody of a graft-accused woman.

Commissioner of Police Ankush Dhanvijay said,“I have encouraged the ACB to go after such policemen.” Asked if the recent arrest of a senior PI didn’t deter corrupt cops,he said,“I have issued immediate orders to put them under suspension.”
