The state Congress on Wednesday slammed the SAD-BJP government for the “deteriorating” law and order situation in Punjab.

While condemning the killing and looting of Amritsar-based businessman Munish Khanna on Tuesday, the party claimed such incidents of murder, dacoity, loot and drug trafficking have become the order of the day.

“The Punjab Police needs to learn a lesson from the effective policing displayed by the Wisconsin authorities while tackling the shootout at Oak creek gurudwara. The US Police responded within minutes to the 911 call and they shot dead the killer on the spot. A brave police officer confronted the attacker and was critically injured while defending the innocent citizens,” said former MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira.

He added: “Do we have any such mechanism where our police have responded to any distress call by its citizens? Have they ever reached the spot to confront criminals? On the contrary, the politicised Punjab Police is known to shield guilty, convicted criminals like Bibi Jagir Kaur, who is being provided VIP status in jail.”
