The Bombay HC on Monday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to complete its investigation within a month in a case of alleged extortion of money by Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel using fake bail bonds.

Activist Samir Zaveri alleged that a group of Railway protection (RPF) personnel set up fake magistrate courts and collected fines from commuters who were caught violating rules. The personnel allegedly have issued fake bail bonds to the commuters at Kurla station during 2008. The court has now asked the CBI to submit a report to it by August 17. A division bench of Justices S A Bobde and Mridula Bhatkar also asked the CBI to suggest steps that could be taken to prevent such practices in future. The case was transferred to the CBI in August last year.
