CHANDIGARH: Freedom fighter,Bakhtawar Singh,hailing from Kutubpur village in Haryana will be honoured by President Pranab Mukherjee at a function to be organised at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi on the occasion of the anniversary of Quit India Movement on August 9. Bakhtawar Singh was a close associate of Subhash Chandra Bose and had been with him in the Azad Hind Fauj.

Missing Haryana children found

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Police recovered two missing children on Tuesday,who had allegedly run away from Brahm Shakti Ashram at Tatiana village in Kaithal district. Rajan and Mukesh were recovered from Ambala railway station. The kids disclosed that they had fled from the Ashram to meet old friends.

9 held in Karnal for cruelty to animals

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Police,on Wednesday,arrested nine persons in separate incidents,under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act,from various parts of Karnal district and succeeded in getting 31 cows released from their possession.

Yash Mittal was chosen for his outstanding achievements in the field of education,Harman Singh for her outstanding achievements in the field of cultural activities and modeling and Navdeep who despite being differently-abled stood second in 100 meter race and won a gold medal in 200 meter race in Para-athletic National Championship.

Sant Samaj opposes opening of casinos

AMRITSAR: Sant Samaj president and Damdami Taksal chief Harnam Singh Khalsa,on Wednesday,said Punjab government should not go ahead with its proposal to set up casinos in Ludhiana. Khalsa added that casinos would further lead to social evils like drug menace.

4 held with heroin from Pakistan

AMRITSAR: Police claim to have arrested four smugglers on Wednesday in Amritsar,when they had allegedly gathered for a heroin transaction. Around 150 grams of the drug and Rs 42.65 lakh in Indian currency was recovered from them. “Preliminary investigations revealed that the recovered consignment was a small part of a bigger consignment recently smuggled from Pakistan,” a press statement said.
