Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev on Wednesday hailed the move to demonetise the existing Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes, saying it will go a long way in curbing terrorism, Naxalism and illegal businesses. Heaping praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ramdev said: “Ye bhi kaam bahut bada ho gya; aazad Hindustan main pehla Pradhanmantri aya jisne saahaspoorna nirnay karke dikhaya. (This is a big step; in Independent India, this is the first PM who has taken such a brave decision). It will have a far reaching impact, funding of terrorism will stop, sources of Naxalism will dry up.”
“Entire country greets the PM for his move to control black money, the illegal businesses, corruption and economic offences,” said a visibly charged Ramdev. “But some people are very much pained at the move, because elections in Uttar Pradesh and other states are coming up; and some people buy votes in exchange for notes. Now all these transactions will cease…as PM has (begun) cleaning the economy. The illegal and immoral activities will be controlled,” he said, adding that there was a parallel “invisible and a mysterious economy” which was running in the country and which too will cease now.
Ramdev said that ill-gotten money was used to ‘buy’ MP and MLAs. He also said that Rs 17.77 lakh crore is in circulation and “86 per cent, or about Rs 15 lakh crore of it, is in Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denomination”. “It will fill up the coffers of the country; the government will be getting Rs 15 lakh crore. And the country’s economy will become transparent.”
He also said that for ten years, he “had campaigned (against black money) and now my soul is peaceful. What had been thought by lakhs of workers and crores of patriots, Modiji has done it. I was always asked about black money, and two and a half years later, Modiji has taken the biggest and strictest decision.”
He said that nobody can question this move, as “first the PM ensured crores of bank accounts are opened. And then gave an opportunity to people to come out with their black money. And now this is the third step.”
Congratulating Donald Trump on being elected as the US President, he said, “It was settled that he will win even when I had visited the US. Trump k election jeetne se Pakistan ab haashiye par jayega. Duniya ki aatankwadi taakatein prast hongi, aur jo poori duniya me kuch varg visheshon kay dwara jo dehshaht phailayi jaa rahi thi, wo dehshatgardi khatam hogi (With Trump winning the election, Pakistan will be pushed to the margins. The powers behind terrorism will be defeated and the terror being spread by a particular community will come to an end). A new era in India – US relations will start, congratulations to Trump.”
